BMB TRAINING SITE
Recently MARN came across a BMB Training Website that is devoted to providing discipleship resources and training for believers from Muslim backgrounds (BMB). The introduction to this website begins,
With the growing movement of believers of Muslim background (BMBs), this site aims to make a contribution in three areas:
First is the area of pastoral care and discipleship. For example, how can BMBs best be supported to find their place in Christs community without losing contact with their Muslim community? When and how can they tell their families about their new faith in Christ? What does a Christ-centered lifestyle look like in place of Islams ordered framework? These are urgent questions, and many in the established churches are not yet equipped to address them.
Secondly, there is a great need for maturing believers to be equipped for ministry and to equip others. May BMBs equip BMBs both in their own cultural contexts and in fellowship with the global body of Christ. This website will provide a space for practitioners to share information about new training materials in different countries, and to collaborate on new initiatives. Whole courses or summary descriptions may be uploaded, or links may be given to other sites.
Thirdly, as a growing stream in the world Christian movement, believers of Muslim background have much to teach the worldwide church. They contribute fresh insights to biblically-grounded theology, and their voice must be heard. This website will provide one opportunity (amongst others) to hear this voice. It exists to connect Christs followers of all backgrounds to work together in these three overlapping areas. What impresses us about this site is the range of resources and courses on offer for Muslims from different parts of the world eg the Arab world, South Central Asia, South Asia, and Turkish. Even more impressive is that the site does not try to host all of these amazing resources – instead it provides a summary and then links for accessing them. If you are involved with new believers from Muslim backgrounds we urge you to check out this site and the resources available.
2016 seminars in NZ with Tim Green were encouraging, inspiring and very practical. One of the suggested things to do as a followup to the seminar is to get hold of the Friendship First DVD course which is designed to equip Christians with the vision, confidence, skills and resources to make friends with Muslim people and to share the gift of Jesus with them. This 6-session course is suitable for Christians of all age groups and from all walks of life, and requires no prior knowledge of Islam or Muslims.
It is designed to help ordinary Christians to relate to Muslims as people and is written for Christians who have little or no knowledge of the subject…
- It can be run in church home groups or larger seminar settings.
- The course is highly interactive, combining the following features: group discussion; short talks on DVD; audiovisual clips; testimonies; case studies; weekly tasks; and a field trip.
- The group leader need know nothing about Islam, for the teaching input comes from Steve Bell’s Friendship First study manual and from the course developed by Tim Green with a range of expert speakers.
Cost $110.00 including postage in NZ. For more information or to order, click on this link.
COME FOLLOW ME
This is another excellent resource from Tim Green – see the videoclips at the links above.
Muslim people worldwide are turning to Jesus. How can they grow a strong identity as disciples of Christ and members of his community while still caring for their Muslim families? The ‘Come Follow Me’ discipleship course specifically aims to help these new believers…
- Course participants grow through a powerful combination of self-study, regular discussion with an advisor/mentor (or in a group) and practical learning tasks.
- Deep-level discipleship affects issues of belonging (eg to old and new communities), issues of worldview (including fatalism, revenge, good deeds etc) and issues of behaviour (such as marriage relationships, conflict resolution).
- All these topics (and more) are tackled in this course, within the framework of an inductive study of 1 Peter.
PRAY FOR MEMBERS OF ISIS
A team of workers in the Middle East have created a 30-day prayer guide for ISIS. Each day contains a topic, verses, and YouTube songs. There is also a suggested art activity as well. From the Pray For ISIS Website:
